Laura started her career training in Theatre Design at Nottingham Trent University back in the 80’s. She then left University and set up a theatre company specifically to create theatre using a combined arts approach with disabled young people. In 1990 – 1997 she worked full time for Carousel – a collective based in Brighton, and worked as a facilitator, performer, trainer & fundraiser. It was an amazing role that gave her a professional foray into the world of Disability Arts. At this time she also served on the Arts Council Arts and Disability Monitoring Committee and NDAF board. Laura returned to Nottingham in 1998 to work for East Midlands SHAPE, and where she also worked as a freelancer for Bamboozle Theatre in Leicester developing immersive theatre experiences for families and children with profound and multiple learning disabilities and Autism. Having taken a production training course at Channel 4, she spent the early 2000’s working in television as a production assistant and researcher for independent companies, Channel 4 and BBC. In 2004 – 2016 whilst working as an Arts Development Officer within Derbyshire local authorities, she set up Meander Theatre to offer professional standard theatre opportunities with people with learning disabilities. Her greatest joy is in working alongside open, creative and fun loving people who see access, in all its glory, as a priority.
