At the Broadway production of Spring Awakening, staged by Deaf West Theatre, deaf-blind audience members were able to experience the show through innovative interpreters. The production itself featured a mix of Deaf and hearing actors, with almost every line either staged or captioned on stage!

Awakening the Senses on Broadway

Ryan Odland sat raptly in the audience in the back row at a recent production of the Broadway musical “Spring Awakening” as one of the characters rose from the grave. Dancers swept across the stage, music swelling for the final climactic number. “That was amazing,” said Mr. Odland, who is deaf and blind.
